With the concurrence of the Central Bank and as part of the Financial Sector Reforms, the Financial Ombudsman Sri Lanka (Guarantee) Limited was incorporated by the Banking Industry, the registered Finance Companies, the Primary Dealers and Leasing Companies that are supervised by the Central Bank, and has been successfully operating since November, 2003.

The objective of the Ombudsman scheme in the satisfactory settlement and resolution of complaints/disputes by customers of Banks and other Financial Institutions covered by the Scheme with power to make monetary awards binding on the participating Financial Institutions.

Applications/Nominations are hereby invited for the post of Financial Ombudsman. The applicant/nominee should be a person of high repute having experience in either the Legal, Judicial, Banking, Financial and Administrative services and should be from among the following:-
    A retired Judge of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal / High Court, District Court.
    A retired Public Administrator of the rank of a Secretary to a Ministry.
    A senior retired Central Banker who held the rank of Director or above.
    A nominee of the Organization of Professional Associations, holding a position of repute in a Professional Body.
    A non-active Senior Professional Accountant.
    A retired Senior Banker with several years of banking experience and professional qualifications in Banking.

The Ombudsman's appointment will be on a full-time basis, initially for a 2-year term.

In conformity with the Articles of Association of the Company, the Ombudsman will be selected by a panel of representatives form the Central Bank, the Securities Exchange Commission, the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Bar Association, the Organization of Professional Associations and Representatives of the participating Financial Institutions.

The salary and terms are negotiable. The office is presently located in Colombo and is supported by a full-time staff.
