Handicap International (HI) is an international aid organisation specialised in the field of disability and development. A strong emphasis is placed on empowering people with disabilities through their integration into mainstream development activities and the provision of appropriate health and rehabilitation services to ensure equal opportunities for all. Handicap International (HI) has been working in Sri Lanka since mid 2004 and develops and implements projects to improve the quality of life of people with disability or injury and their families, in whatever context, promoting their active participation and social inclusion, developing partnerships at all levels, in the frame of the national policy on disability.

We are looking for two Inclusion Project Officers (Mainstreaming Disability) based in Batticaloa and Trincomalee respectively. S/he will assist the Project Manager in the implementation of the project working towards equal participation of people with disabilities in the society. S/he will remain directly accountable to the Project Manager -East – Mainstreaming Disability.

Specific objectives:
    *To assist in implementation of the inclusion and mainstreaming component of the project with partner/s organizations through the provision of training and field practice with focus on disability and inclusion.
    *To assess areas for technical support and identification of the required project inputs in developing the capacities of the organizations involved in the project.
    *To provide technical assistance and support to teams/partner/s organization involved in the project directly.
    *To assist in development of new initiatives on inclusion and mainstreaming as envisaged in the project
    *To ensure appropriate follow-up of training/ practice imparted as per the project requirement.
    *To assist in facilitating the collation and development of training and awareness materials for disability and development with focus on disability and inclusion.
    *To guarantee Handicap International representation in its field of expertise by respecting the project frame works.

Knowledge and Skills:
    *Diploma / Degree in disability studies, development, Social Work, Social Science or relevant field.
    *At least 3 years of field experience with a national organisation and at least 1 year of field experience for an international organisation with experience in areas such as HIV/Gender/Disability/Rights/Community Development.
    *Good writing and interpersonal communication skills, including fluency in spoken and written English.
    *Experience of working in a community programme and in development context
    *Knowledge and experience in training and pedagogy including training curriculum development and training needs assessment.
    *Capacity to transfer skills and knowledge.
    *Advanced computer skills in Word and Excel and Power Point
    *Knowledge and understanding of disability and development will be desirable.
